This chapter and the maps incorporated herein by reference shall be known as and may be cited as the "Butler Township Zoning Ordinance" and are adopted in accordance with and exercising the authority of the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, Act 247,[1] as amended, in order:
To regulate and restrict the location and use of buildings, structures and land for residence, agriculture, trade, commerce, recreation, industry and other purposes.
To divide the Township or any portion thereof into districts of such size, shape and area and to establish such official maps as may be deemed best suited to carry out these regulations and provide for their enforcement.
In addition to the community development objectives for Butler Township stated in the Central Butler Region Comprehensive Plan, this chapter is based on the following community development objectives:
To prevent the overcrowding of land, blight, danger and congestion in travel and transportation and the loss of health, life or property from fire, flood, panic or other dangers.
To promote the utilization of renewable energy sources.
