R-5 Agricultural and Resort Uses

§ 450-1201 Purpose.

Agricultural districts involve larger tracts of land, farming, forestry and other rural uses and activities, and large tract rural residential uses. Because of the remoteness of agricultural districts, special land uses which do not adversely affect the rural character of the district may be allowed which might not otherwise be allowed in more densely populated areas. Such special uses would not include, however, uses which attract high traffic load, excessive noise, light or smoke emission or industrial type uses.

§ 450-1202 Principal permitted uses.

Following are the principal permitted uses for the R-5 Agriculture and Resort uses:
All principal uses allowed in R-1 Residential Districts; subject, however, to space requirements set forth in this article.
General farming, agriculture and horticultural uses.
Animal and livestock farms.
Poultry raising and poultry ranches.
Riding stables with a minimum of 40 acres.
Greenhouses and nurseries.
Hobby farming and gardening on five acres or more.
Reforestation and tree farms.
Truck gardening.
Dairy farming.
Agricultural experimentation.
Fish hatcheries.
Any agricultural type use not incompatible with those set forth above.

§ 450-1203 Special land uses.

Following are the special land uses for the R-5 Agricultural and Resort Uses:
Nursing and convalescent homes.
Wildlife and hunting preserves.
Animal feedlots and structure farming.
Earth removal quarrying, gravel processing, mining, sand mining and related mineral extraction activities.
Lagoon and spraying areas, sewage disposal and soil enrichment areas.
Sanitary landfills licensed in accordance with Act 451 of the Public Acts of 1994 (MCL 324.11501 et seq.).
Kennels, veterinary hospitals and clinics.
Radio, television and communications towers.
Cemeteries.
Water impoundment and man-made lakes.
Hotels, motels, golf courses, parks and playgrounds, marinas and resort installations.
Private landing fields.
Home occupations.
Wireless communication towers.

§ 450-1205 Space requirements, general.

When the majority of buildings built on one side of the street between two intersecting streets at the same time of the passage of this chapter have been built with a minimum setback different from that required by this chapter, no building hereafter erected or altered shall project beyond the minimum resulting setback so established, provided that no single-family dwelling shall be required to maintain a setback more than is required by § 450-1204 of this article. No accessory building shall be located in a side yard, the side yard distance being mandatory and not including accessory buildings.

§ 450-1206 Height limitations.

No structure or building shall be erected which exceeds 2 1/2 stories, or 30 feet in height in the agricultural and resort district, except for farm structures, such as barns and silos or special land uses.
