- TITLE AND PURPOSE
These regulations shall be known and may be cited as "The Zoning Ordinance of the Unified Government of Georgetown-Quitman County, Georgia" hereafter known as Georgetown-Quitman County.
The purpose of this Ordinance is to establish minimum standards for the use of land and improvements thereon in Georgetown-Quitman County, Georgia. The zoning regulations and districts herein established are designed to:
• Prevent congestion in the streets;
• Secure safety from fire, panic, and other dangers;
• Promote health and general welfare;
• Provide adequate light and air;
• Prevent overcrowding;
• Promote desirable living conditions;
• Sustain the stability of neighborhoods;
• Protect property against blight and deprecation;
• Conserve the value of buildings;
• Encourage the most appropriate use of land and structures; and
• Improve the overall aesthetics of the community.
The requirements of these regulations are minimum permissible standards; and it is expected that developers, the Unified Government of Georgetown-Quitman and the Planning Commission will normally strive for quality developments that will exceed these minimum requirements.
