This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Zoning Ordinance of the Township of Liberty."

In their interpretation and application, the provisions of this chapter shall be held to be minimum requirements adopted for the promotion of the public health, safety, morals and general welfare. Among other purposes, the provisions of this chapter are intended to provide for adequate light, air and convenience of access; to lessen congestion in the streets; to secure safety from fire and other dangers; to avoid undue concentration of population by regulating and limiting the use of land and the height and bulk of buildings wherever erected; to limit and determine the size of yards and other open spaces; to regulate the density of population; and to conserve the value of property, encourage the most appropriate use of land, conserve and protect natural resources and enhance the natural and manmade beauty throughout the Township of Liberty.

It is not intended by this chapter to repeal, abrogate, annul or in any way to impair or interfere with existing provisions of other ordinances, except those specifically repealed by this chapter, or with private restrictions placed upon property by deed, covenant or other agreements. However, where this chapter imposes a greater restriction upon land, buildings or structures than is imposed by existing provisions of ordinance, contract or deed, the provisions of this chapter shall control. Where the provisions of this chapter are or become repugnant to state or federal law and cannot be reconciled therewith, the provisions of such law shall govern.
