London City Zoning Code

CHAPTER 1260

Accessory Uses

1260.01 PURPOSE AND INTENT.

The purpose of this chapter is to regulate accessory uses in order to promote the public health, safety and general welfare. It is the intent of this chapter to permit accessory uses to be established and maintained in a manner that makes them compatible with principal uses and harmonious with uses upon adjacent properties.
(Ord. 186-91. Passed 10-15-92.)

1260.02 PERMITTED USES; USE OF ACCESSORY STRUCTURES, TRAVEL TRAILERS OR RECREATIONAL VEHICLES FOR DWELLING PURPOSES.

Except as otherwise provided in this Zoning Code, an accessory use shall be permitted in association with a principal use. If the accessory use is a structure, it shall not contain or be used as a dwelling unit, except that on any Residential District lot or nonconforming residential lot, a travel trailer or recreational vehicle may be used temporarily as a dwelling unit for a maximum of seventy-two hours at a time and no more than four times in any 365-day period.
(Ord. 186-91. Passed 10-15-92.)

1260.03 CONTINUATION OF USE OF STRUCTURES AND VEHICLES FOR DWELLING PURPOSES.

A detached inhabited structure (such as a carriage house, servants' quarters or garage apartment) that is being used as a dwelling unit at the time that this Zoning Code is adopted may continue as a nonconforming accessory use in Residential Districts. Mobile homes, recreational vehicles and travel trailers are not permitted as accessory uses, except as a temporary dwelling unit as described in Section 1260.02 or as temporary office, tool and/or equipment areas during construction.
(Ord. 186-91. Passed 10-15-92.)

1260.04 RETAIL SALES AND SERVICES.

A limited range of usual retail sales and services may be permitted as accessory uses in nonresidential districts when clearly related to (but incidental to) the principal use. With the exception of restaurants operating in conjunction with a motel, such retail sales and services uses shall be conducted wholly within the principal building and without exterior signs, advertising or displays. These activities shall be conducted solely for the convenience of the employees, patients, patrons, students and/or visitors and not for the general public. In hospitals and clinics, these accessory uses may include drug stores, florists, gift shops, book stores and/or food services. In institutional settings, office buildings, hotels, country club houses and airports, such activities may include gift shops, book stores, restaurants, cafeterias, coffee shops, lounges, pro shops, beauty salons and/or barber shops.
(Ord. 186-91. Passed 10-15-92.)
