PURPOSE AND AUTHORITY
§ 101 Title.

The Zoning Ordinance of Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania.
§ 102 Purpose and Authority.

This Chapter is adopted by virtue of the authority contained in the Pennsylvania Municipalities Planning Code, Act of July 31, 1968, P.L. 805, Article VI, § 601, as amended, for the purpose of promoting the health, safety, and general welfare of the Township. All regulations are based upon the comprehensive plan and are designed to regulate streets and roads safely from fire, panic, and other dangers, to prevent the overcrowding of land, to avoid congestion of population, to provide adequate provisions for transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks and any other public requirements. These regulations are made with due consideration of the general character of the district with the idea of retaining the value of the land and encouraging the most appropriate uses of the land throughout the Township.
§ 103 Community Development Objectives.

This Chapter has been implemented to aid in carrying out the goals and objectives of the comprehensive plan of Londonderry Township which are stated as follows:
1.
Through land use and zoning, plan proper distribution of population by regulating density and considering the availability of public services, shopping facilities, and employment.
2.
Plan to provide adequate recreational facilities for all age groups.
3.
Aid in planning educational facilities locations.
4.
Plan and implement sanitary sewerage and treatment when needed.
5.
Plan to provide and implement solid waste collection and disposal.
6.
Aid in the planning and promotion of water, gas, electric and telephone utilities, structures and rights-of-way when and where required.
7.
Aid in the promotion of job opportunities where possible.
8.
Plan and aid in the promotion of a variety of housing for all income levels.
9.
Plan and regulate commercial and industrial development.
10.
Aid in the planning and implementation of adequate police and fire protection.
11.
Plan and aid in the promotion both by the Township and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, adequate transportation facilities by planning additional roads and improvement of existing roads.
12.
Plan and implement the use of stream valleys and natural woodland for open space and recreational use.
13.
Plan and aid in the regulation and enforcement of the objectives by the enactment of ordinances necessary to accomplish the basic objectives as set forth in the comprehensive plan.
§ 104 Interpretation.

The interpretation and application of this Chapter shall be held to be the minimum requirements for the promotion of the health, safety, and welfare of the Township. It is not the intent to interfere, annul, or suppress other rules enacted by the Township as regulations or ordinances; however, the provisions of the most restrictive ordinance shall control, should there be any conflict.
