ARTICLE I

- AUTHORITY, TITLE, PURPOSE, GOALS AND BENEFITS

Sec. 1.01. - Authority.

Zoning authority is granted by the KRS 100.201 through KRS 100.271 (1966).

[Sec. 1.02. - Title; incorporation of zoning map.]

This ordinance is entitled "Zoning Ordinance for Mayfield, Kentucky," and may be referred to as "zoning ordinance", and the zoning map, herein entitled "Zoning Map of Mayfield, Kentucky," may be referred to as "zoning map." The zoning map is hereby made a part of this ordinance and certified copies of the ordinance are on file with the Mayfield Planning Commission, Mayfield City Clerk and Graves County Clerk.

Sec. 1.03. - Purpose.

The intent, purpose and scope of this ordinance is to promote and protect public health, safety, morals and general welfare of the City of Mayfield by establishing zoning districts and regulations that facilitate orderly, planned and harmonious development and the visual and historical character of Mayfield. In establishing zoning districts and regulations this ordinance seeks the public welfare by regulating the density and intensity of population and land use in order to provide for adequate light, air and safety; to facilitate fire and police protection; to prevent blight, overcrowding of land, and the danger and congestion in the circulation of people and commodities; to provide for adequate vehicle parking and loading space; and to prevent the loss of life, health or property from fire, flood or other similar dangers.

Sec. 1.04. - Goals.

Goals of the zoning ordinance are to attain a coordinated and compatible land use arrangement which will promote the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Mayfield; to establish desirable land use policies and regulations which will facilitate land utilization and attain the most desirable and best use of the resources available to the residents of Mayfield; and to attain the maximum coordination and integration of the various land uses so that they can be conveniently and efficiently serviced by community services, facilities and public streets.

Sec. 1.05. - Benefits.

The most obvious and direct benefit to be derived from the use and application of the zoning ordinance will be the attainment of a logical, convenient and workable relationship between the various land uses and the prevention of crowding, congestion and undue mixing of incompatible land uses. The zoning ordinance will benefit all the residents of Mayfield by providing them with the legal means to achieve a desirable and compatible land use pattern that facilitates their everyday existence and promotes their health, safety and general welfare.
