The zoning code provides standards for the use and development of land located in the city of Sequim.

The comprehensive plan and any adopted subarea plans are established by state statute to be the basic source of reference when evaluating development proposals. Consistent with the requirements of Chapters 35A.11, 35A.63, and 36A.70 RCW, all development regulations must implement and be subordinate to the policies and standards of the comprehensive plan. The city of Sequim zoning code is a regulation containing prescriptive and performance standards that are in conformance with policies and standards of the comprehensive plan. Strict adherence to the rules, procedures, and standards established herein is required.

In areas of jurisdictional overlap, the provisions of the zoning code shall be subordinate to the policies and performance standards contained in the Sequim shoreline master program (as amended), excepting that regulations contained within the zoning code that are more stringent than those found in the shoreline master program shall prevail.

The provisions of other adopted city of Sequim ordinances and plans shall be subordinate to the prescriptive standards of the zoning code. Other ordinances and plans that may be applicable are available from the city.
