- IN GENERAL
(a)
In pursuance of the authority granted by G.S. ch. 160A, art. 19 (G.S. 160A-360—160A-459), for the purposes of promoting the public health, safety, morals, and general welfare; to provide for the establishment of zoning districts within the town and its extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ); to regulate within those districts the location, height, bulk and size of buildings and other structures, the percentage of the lot that may be occupied, the required open space, the density of the population and the uses of the land, buildings and other structures; to provide methods of administration of this chapter; to prescribe penalties for the violation thereof; and to supersede any ordinances in conflict herewith.

The zoning ordinance of the town enacted on July 7, 1981, is amended and restated, effective July 3, 2001.

This chapter shall be known as the "zoning ordinance." The map herein referred to, which is identified by the title "Official Zoning Map of the Town of Southern Shores, North Carolina," shall be known as the "zoning map."

In accordance with the provisions of G.S. ch. 160A, art. 19 (G.S. 160A-360—160A-459), and for the purposes more fully set forth in that chapter, the town council adopts this chapter to provide for the orderly growth and development of the town.
