ARTICLE VII

SIGNS

Sec. 48-216.- Definitions.

The following words, terms and phrases, when used in this article, shall have the meanings ascribed to them in this section, except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

Attached wall sign means any sign attached to and not projecting more than one foot from the face of a building.

Attention attracting device means any flasher, blinker, or animated device designed to attract the attention of the public to an establishment or sign. A time and temperature device shall not be deemed an attention attracting device.

Detached sign means any sign located on the ground and not attached to a building.

Indirectly illuminated sign means any sign which is partially or completely illuminated by a constant, non-moving light source which is so shielded as to not be visible at eye level.

Marquee sign means any sign attached flat against the marquee or permanent sidewalk canopy of a building.

Painted sign means any sign painted directly on the surface of a building.

Poster panel means an outdoor sign, more commonly known as a billboard, advertising products or services not offered on the premises.

Projecting sign means any sign projecting more than one foot from the surface of a building.

Roof sign means any sign erected upon or over the roof of a building and having the roof as its principal means of support.

Semi-illuminated sign means any sign located on a building which building face is uniformly illuminated over its entire surface.

Sign means any words, numerals, figures, devices, designs or trademarks by which information is made known to the public outside a building.
