Apartment or subdivision. Signs located at the drive or entrance to an apartment complex or subdivision identifying the name and/or address of the development and containing no other information.

Construction signs. Any temporary sign announcing the names of architect engineers, contractors or other individuals or firms involved with the construction, alteration or repair of a building enterprise or the purpose for which the building is intended. One unlighted sign up to 20 square feet identifying parties involved in construction on the premises where the sign is located.

Flags. Flags bearing the official design of a nation, state, municipality or organization.

Garage, yard or other temporary sale signs. Rummage sale or other temporary sale signs clearly incidental to the primary use of the premises on which they are located. Not more than two signs shall be erected on any one street and the total area of the signs shall not exceed eight square feet.

Holiday signs. Temporary signs or displays which contain or depict a message pertaining to a holiday and other information.

Public event signs. One unlighted sign of up to 32 square feet displayed on private property and limited to one per each premises, announcing a campaign drive or event of a political, civic, educational or religious organization, to be removed within 14 days after the event.

Real property sale or rental signs. Any on-premises sign announcing the name of the owner, manager, realtor or other persons directly involved in the sale or rental of the property or announcing the purpose or condition for which it is being offered, to be removed within 14 days after sale, rental or lease.

Institutional signs. Any sign or bulletin board setting forth or denoting name of, or simple announcement for, any charitable organization when located on the premises of such organization.

Integral signs. Name of buildings, dates of construction, commemorative tablets, and the like, when carved into stone, concrete or similar material, or made of bronze, aluminum or other permanent type of construction and made as an integral part of the building structure.

Nameplate and address signs. Signs which identify the owner, resident, manager, business, home occupation and/or address of the premises where the sign is located and containing no other information.

Public information signs. Signs of a public or noncommercial nature, including safety, trespassing, traffic entrance and exit signs, signs indicating scenic or historical points of interest, memorial plaques and the like, and all signs erected by order of a public officer in the performance of a public duty.

For purposes of orientation, directional signs when established by the Village, not exceeding two square feet. No commercial or other type of advertising shall be permitted on such signs.

Temporary signs, up to 16 square feet, and banners/pennants for personal celebrations or noncommercial special events, and to be removed five days after the event or celebration.

Political signs per § 11-8-5.

Allowable sign types:

Maximum signage. Each business or industrial site shall be allowed not more than one freestanding sign and each business or occupant shall be allowed one projecting sign and a combination of two of the following signs:

Election signs are signs that contain announcement of candidates seeking political office or announcement of support or opposition to an issue on a ballot. They shall not exceed 16 square feet in total display area. Such signs are permitted in all zoning districts. Such signs may not be placed in the parkway area between the street and sidewalk or on or in any public property or on lighting, power, or communication poles or towers, federal, state, county or Village traffic control regulatory or informational signs or facilities. Such signs may not be displayed sooner than 90 days prior to the election and must be removed no later than the second Sunday following the election.

Penalty. Violation of this section of this chapter shall be charged against the candidate or candidates listed on the sign or the owner of the property on which the sign is located.
