PURPOSE
Pursuant to the authority granted by Code of Ala. 1975, § 11-52-70, as amended, the zoning regulations and districts as herein established have been made in accordance with a comprehensive plan and designed to lessen congestion in the streets, to secure safety from fire, panic and other dangers; to promote health and the general welfare; to provide adequate light and air; to prevent the overcrowding of land; to avoid undue concentrations of population; to facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, water, sewerage, schools, parks, and other public requirements. The regulations have also been made with reasonable consideration, among other things, to the character of each district of the city and to the peculiar suitability of each for particular uses and with a view to conserving the value of buildings and property and toward encouraging appropriate uses of land throughout the city as defined in the comprehensive plan or parts thereof.
