This ordinance is prepared under the authority of Chapter 211, Texas Local Government Code, of the State of Texas, to promote health, safety, and morals, and for the protection and preservation of places and areas of historical and cultural importance and significance, or the general welfare of the community, and the legislative body is empowered to regulate and restrict the height, number of stories and size of buildings and other structures, the percentage of lot that may be occupied, the size of the yards, courts and other open spaces, the density of population, and the location and use of buildings, structures, and land for trade, industry, residence, or other purpose; and, in the case of designated places and areas of historic and cultural importance, to regulate and restrict the construction, alteration, reconstruction or razing of buildings and other structures. This ordinance shall be known as the "City of Alma Zoning Ordinance."
