§ 21

PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS.

Any person, firm or corporation who shall violate any of the provisions of this ordinance or who shall fail to comply with any of the provisions of this ordinance, or who shall build, alter or occupy any building, structure of [or] land in violation of any statement or plan submitted and approved hereunder shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not to exceed two thousand ($2,000.00) dollars. Each day such violation is committed or permitted to continue, shall constitute a separate offense, and shall be punishable as such hereunder.
The owner or tenant of any building or property or part thereof where anything in violation of this ordinance shall be placed or shall exist and any architect, building contractor, agent, person, firm or corporation employed in connection therewith and who have assisted in the commission of such violation, shall be guilty of separate offense, and upon conviction thereof, shall be fined in any amount not to exceed two thousand dollars ($2,000.00).
In addition to the remedies provided for in this ordinance, the Building Inspector may, in case of any buildings or structures are erected, constructed, reconstructed, altered, repaired, converted, or maintained, or any building, structure or land is used in violation of this ordinance, institute on behalf of the City of Bridgeport any appropriate action or proceeding to prevent such unlawful erection, construction, reconstruction, alteration, repair, conversion, maintenance, or use, to restrain, correct or abate such violation, to prevent the occupancy of said building, structure of land, or to prevent any illegal act, conduct business or use in or about such premises. Nothing herein contained shall prevent the city from taking such other lawful action as is necessary to prevent or remedy any violation.
