ARTICLE I

Title, Authority and Purpose

§ 165-1 Short title.

This chapter shall be known and may be cited as the "Zoning Ordinance of the Town of Derry, New Hampshire," hereinafter referred to as "this chapter."

§ 165-2 Statutory authority.

This chapter is adopted pursuant to the authority granted by Chapter 674 et seq., New Hampshire Revised Statutes Annotated, as amended.

§ 165-3 Purpose.

This chapter, together with associated maps, is enacted for the purpose of promoting the health, safety, and general welfare of the community. It is the intent of this chapter to:
A. 
Lessen congestion in the streets;
B. 
Secure safety from fires, panic and other dangers;
C. 
Provide adequate light and air;
D. 
Prevent overcrowding of land;
E. 
Avoid undue concentration of population;
F. 
Facilitate the adequate provision of transportation, solid waste facilities, water, sewerage, schools, parks, and child day care;
G. 
Assure proper use of natural resources and other public requirements; and
H. 
Give reasonable consideration to, among other things, the character of the area involved and its peculiar suitability for particular uses, as well as with a view to conserving the value of buildings and encouraging the most appropriate use of land throughout the municipality.
