It is the purpose of this chapter to regulate the location and installation of photovoltaic systems. The promotion of safe, effective and efficient use of photovoltaic systems will be balanced against the need to preserve and protect the public health, safety and welfare. (Ord. O-9-17-3, 9-18-2017)
9-16-2: DEFINITIONS:
APPLICANT: The person or entity filing an application under this chapter.
OWNER: The individual or entity that intends to own and operate the photovoltaic system in accordance with the provisions of this chapter.
PHOTOVOLTAIC SYSTEM: A device for changing light rays from the sun directly into electricity, also called solar cell. (Ord. O-9-17-3, 9-18-2017)
9-16-3: STANDARDS:
In addition to those requirements specified in section 9-14-12 of this title, the following minimum requirements shall be met before a special use permit is granted to an applicant:
(A) Building Permit: All photovoltaic systems require a building permit prior to the initiation of construction. Licensed drawings and specifications shall be submitted to the Village of Grant Park and shall evidence compliance with all applicable ordinances of the Village.
(B) Controls: All electrical controls shall be inspected by a State of Illinois licensed electrician upon installation.
(C) Design Safety Certification: The safety of the design of all photovoltaic systems shall be certified by a State of Illinois licensed electrician. The standard for certification shall be good engineering practices and compliance with all applicable ordinances of the Village.
(D) Installation Certification: The design of all photovoltaic systems shall be certified by a State of Illinois licensed electrician. The standard for certification shall be good engineering practices and compliance with all applicable ordinances of the Village.
(E) Setbacks: Setbacks from public roads and property lines shall be established in the underlying zoning district.
