ARTICLE III

FIREARM-FREE ZONES

Sec. 115-70.- Definitions.

For the purposes of this article, the term "firearm-free zone" shall mean an area inclusive of any school campus and within 1,000 feet of any such school campus, and within a school bus. For the purpose of this article only, the term "school" shall mean any public or private elementary, secondary or vocational technical school in the parish and the term "school property" shall mean all property used for school purposes, including, but not limited to, school playgrounds.

Sec. 115-71. - Creation; establishment.

Firearm-free zones are hereby established in an area inclusive of any property used for school purposes by any school in rural Iberia Parish, within 1,000 feet of any such property, and school buses, all in accordance with R.S. 14:95.6. Said firearm-free zones are hereby created and established for the existing 19 public schools, two private schools and one vocational-technical assistance school, currently located in rural Iberia Parish, the boundaries of which are clearly indicated on a map entitled "Iberia Parish Firearm-Free Zones - Schools," which map shall be recorded with the parish clerk of court and made a part of the official records of the parish.

Sec. 115-72. - Posting of signs or other markings.

Signs or other markings designating the established firearm-free zones shall be located in a visible manner on or near each school and in each school bus, indicating that such area is a firearm-free zone, that such zone extends to 1,000 feet of said school property. The state department of education shall assist each approved school with the posting of notice as required by this section.
