ARTICLE 22

- COURTHOUSE SQUARE DISTRICT

22-1.- Statement of intent.

The purpose of this district is to protect and preserve the historical integrity and cultural heritage of the Town of Lawrenceville and Brunswick County as physically manifested and symbolized by Courthouse Square.

To this end, permissible uses in this district shall be limited to only public uses and facilities compatible with the existing character of Courthouse Square, with such area being considered inappropriate for private development.

All permitted uses in this district shall be by special exception permit approved by [the] town council, which permit may address such factors of development as size, height, area, bulk and location, and such other factors as are reasonably and necessarily related to the proposed development.

22-2. - Use regulations.

In Courthouse Square District 22, structures to be erected or land to be used shall be for one or more of the following uses:

Use by Special Exception

1.

Courthouses and related functions.

2.

Clerk's offices.

3.

Museums.

4.

Facilities, activities, and operations which are provided by a duly constituted unit of the government.
