means an attached or detached residential dwelling unit that provides complete independent living facilities for one or more persons and is located on a lot with a proposed or existing primary dwelling. It shall include permanent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking, and sanitation on the same parcel that the single-family or multifamily dwelling is or will be situated. "Accessory dwelling unit" includes an efficiency unit, as defined in Section
17958.1 of the California Health and Safety Code, or a manufactured home, as defined in Section
18007 of the California Health and Safety Code. An accessory dwelling unit is not an accessory structure, as defined in MMC §
10.05.0200, nor is it subject to the requirements of Article
XX of this chapter. Notwithstanding the forgoing sentence, an accessory structure, as defined in MMC §
10.05.0200 may be converted into an accessory dwelling unit or a portion of an accessory dwelling unit in compliance with the requirements of this article.
