Editor's note— Ord. No. 2012-01, § 2, adopted April 13, 2012, provides that these wind speed design and construction standards shall apply within the unincorporated as well as incorporated areas of the county unless superseded by a municipal ordinance adopting a different standard.


8.00.00. - Incorporation of standards and codes.

The following standard codes are hereby adopted and incorporated in this Code by reference:

Florida Building Code. Florida Building Code Seventh Edition (2020), effective January 1, 2021, as it may be updated and amended.

8.01.00. - Wind speed design and construction standards.

In accordance with design and construction standards mandated by the latest revision of the Florida Building Code adopted by the Florida legislature, the following wind speed maps incorporated herein by reference, are hereby adopted to govern building construction in Okeechobee County:

Ultimate Design Wind Speeds - Risk Category III and IV Buildings - Figure 1609-B.

Ultimate Design Wind Speeds - Risk Category I Buildings - Figure 1609-C.

8.01.01. - Risk categories.

The wind speed risk categories graphically depicted in Figures 1609-A, 1609-B and 1609-C shall be more particularly described as follows:

A.

Risk Category II Buildings: A boundary line extending along the westernmost property line of a parcel of land coinciding with the 140 mph line of Figure 1609-A; PIN #1-14-35-32-0A00-00001-0000 with a line extending due north to the county's northern boundary and along the line extending due south for the length of the county; properties west of this boundary line would be considered as located in a 140 mph wind zone; properties east of this boundary line extending to the common eastern boundary line with St. Lucie and Martin Counties would be considered to be located in a 150 mph wind zone.

B.

Risk Category III and IV Buildings: A boundary line extending along the westernmost property line of a parcel of land coinciding with the 150 mph line of Figure 1609-B; PIN #1-03-35-33-0A00-00001-0000 and NW 192 Avenue in the Viking subdivision with a line extending due north to the county's northern boundary and along a line extending due south to the southwestern boundary line of the county along the Kissimmee River near a South Florida Water Management lock. Properties west of this boundary line are considered to be located in a 150 mph wind zone. Properties located eastward of this boundary line extending to the common eastern boundary line with St. Lucie and Martin Counties would be considered to be located in a 160 mph wind zone.

C.

Risk Category I Buildings: The entire county is within the 140 mph wind zone.
