- PROVISIONS FOR ANNEXATION
9.100. Parties requesting annexation by the City of Ponchatoula, including annexation requests by the City of Ponchatoula itself, must submit the following information to the secretary of the planning and zoning commission:
A map of the area to be annexed showing the streets included, the boundaries and the property owners involved.
Annexation request form abstained from the secretary of the planning and zoning commission.
Petition signed by at least 51 percent of the resident property owners within the area to be annexed. (Additional provisions of state law shall be followed, if applicable.)
Request for zoning classification of the proposed area to be annexed.
9.200. Annexation requests will first be reviewed by the planning and zoning commission, which will review the merits of the request and the proper zoning classification needed in the proposed area. If no zoning classification is recommended by the zoning commission for the proposed annexation area, newly annexed property will be brought into the city with an A-R zoning classification.
9.300. The planning and zoning commission will recommend to the city council whether the city should annex the proposed area. Such report and recommendation to the city council shall take no more than 120 days from the date on which the completed annexation request was made to the planning and zoning commission.
9.400. All uses, yards, and lots in the newly annexed area that do not meet the requirements of this ordinance will be considered nonconforming and may continue to exist.
