Definitions. As used in this section, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
AIRPORTFront Royal - Warren County Airport.
AIRPORT ELEVATIONThe highest point of an airport's usable landing area measured in feet from mean sea level. The Front Royal-Warren County Airport is 703.1 feet above mean sea level (MSL).
APPROACH SURFACEA surface longitudinally centered on the runway center line extending at a slope of 20 feet horizontally for each foot vertically 20 to 1 from the end of the primary surface for a horizontal distance of 5,000 feet. The perimeter of the approach surface coincides with the perimeter of the Approach Zone.
CONICAL SURFACEA surface extending at a slope of 20 feet horizontally for each foot vertically 20 to 1 from the periphery of the horizontal surface for a horizontal distance of 4,000 feet.
HAZARD TO AIR NAVIGATIONAn obstruction determined to have an adverse effect on the safe and efficient utilization of the navigable airspace.
HORIZONTAL SURFACEA horizontal plane 150 feet above the established airport elevation, the perimeter of which in plane coincides with the perimeter of the Horizontal Zone.
NONPRECISION INSTRUMENT RUNWAYA runway having an existing instrument approach procedure utilizing air navigation facilities with only horizontal guidance or area type navigation equipment, for which a straight-in nonprecision instrument approach procedure has been approved or planned.
OBSTRUCTIONAny structure, growth or other object, including a mobile object, which exceeds a limiting height set forth in §
180-29D of this chapter.
PERSONAn individual, firm, partnership, corporation, company, association, joint-stock association or governmental entity. It includes a trustee, receiver, assignee or similar representative of any of them.
PRIMARY SURFACEA surface longitudinally centered on a hard surfaced runway, 500 feet in width, extending 200 feet beyond each end of the runway. The elevation of any point on the primary surface is the same as the elevation of the nearest point on the runway center line.
STRUCTUREAny object, constructed or installed by man, including but not limited to buildings, antennas, towers, smokestacks, earth formation and overhead transmission lines.
TRANSITIONAL SURFACESThese surfaces extend outward at ninety-degree angles to the runway center line and extended at a slope of seven feet horizontally for each foot vertical from the sides of the primary and approach surfaces to intersect the horizontal and conical surfaces.
TREEAny object of natural growth.
UTILITY RUNWAYA runway as previously defined that is constructed for and intended to be used by propeller driven aircraft of 12,500 pounds maximum gross weight and less.
VISUAL RUNWAYA runway as previously defined intended solely for the operation of aircraft using visual approach procedures.
