The Township Council may introduce and consider amendments to this chapter and to the Zoning Map,[1] as proposed by a Councilman, by the Planning Commission or by a petition of a person residing or owning property within the Township.

Petitions for amendment shall be filed with the Township Council and referred to the Planning Commission, and the petitioner, upon such filing, shall pay an advertising deposit by resolution of the Council (see Article XII). The Planning Commission shall review the proposed amendment and report its findings and recommendations, in writing, to the Township Council and to the petitioner.

Before acting on a proposed amendment, the Township Council shall hold a public hearing thereon. Notice of such public hearings shall be published once each week for two successive weeks in a newspaper of general circulation in the Township. Such notice shall state the nature of the amendment to be considered; the full text thereof, or a brief summary setting forth the principal provisions in reasonable detail; and a reference to a place within the Township where copies of the proposed amendments may be examined. The first publication shall not be more than 30 days or less than 14 days from the date of the hearing.

Curative amendments may be filed and considered pursuant to application provisions of § 609.2 of the code.[1]

In the event that an amendment to either this chapter or the Zoning Map is denied to a petitioner, the petitioner shall not re-petition for consideration of the same petition for a period of one year from the date that the original petition had been denied.
