Signs must be constructed of durable material and maintained in good condition.

Advertising painted upon or displayed upon a barn or other building or structure shall be regarded as an advertising sign board, and the regulations pertaining thereto shall apply.

Each sign shall be removed when the circumstances leading to its erection no longer apply.

Signs may be interior lighted with nonglaring lights or may be illuminated by floodlights or spotlights shielded so there is no direct light transmitted to other properties or public rights-of-way.

Signs must be located so that they do not interfere with any clear sight triangle as defined by this chapter.

Determination of size. The "size" of the sign shall refer to the area of the sign facing, including any border framing or decorative attachments. In the case of open signs made up of letters, figures and designs, the space between such letters, figures and designs shall be included. Where a sign has two or more faces, the area of all faces shall be included in determining the area of the sign, except that where two such faces are placed back to back and at no point more than three feet from one another, the area of the sign shall be taken as the area of one face, if the two faces are of equal area, or as the area of the larger face, if the two faces are of unequal size. A wall that is offset or staggered less than 10 feet may be used to compute the total size permitted for attached signs.

In the event that a symbol, trademark or other such figure is used as a signpost or sign standard which could be construed to indicate or identify a particular use or business, that symbol, trademark or figure is to be computed as part of the total allowable sign area.

Permits required. Building permits shall be required for all permanent signs.

Permits required. Building permits shall be required for the erection of the following types of temporary signs as referenced in the following chart: T-1, T-3, T-4, T-5, T-8, T-9 and T-10.

No sign shall be used for more than 60 consecutive days in any twelve-consecutive-month period.

No sign shall be used on any one lot for more than 120 days during any twelve-consecutive-month period.

No lot shall have a sign more than four separate times during any twelve-consecutive-month period.

No temporary sign may be located within a clear sight triangle.

Permits shall be required for each time such sign is to be used. The application shall state date of placement and period of placement. A location map showing relationship of the sign to roads and driveways shall be attached.

Signs of such a design and location that they interfere with, compete for attention with or may be mistaken for a traffic signal. This shall include any sign visible from the public right-of-way which uses an arrow device or the word "stop." It shall also include signs in which the colors red, green or amber are used either in direct illumination or in high reflection by the use of special preparation, such as fluorescent paint or glass.

Any sign located in or extending into a public right-of-way, except those owned or operated by a duly constituted government.

Any freestanding sign within the clear sight triangle, except directional signs less than three feet in height, and any other sign which interferes with the safe movement of traffic.

Freestanding signs on or over a public sidewalk area.

Signs attached perpendicular to any building and projecting over the public sidewalk area.

Signs erected upon or attached to the roof of any building.

Freestanding signs for individual uses within an approved shopping center complex.
