- AMENDMENTS
The regulations, restrictions and boundaries set forth in this ordinance may from time to time be amended, supplemented, changed or repealed; provided, however, that no such action may be taken until after a public hearing in relation thereto, at which parties in interest and citizens shall have an opportunity to be heard. At least fifteen (15) days notice of the time and place of such hearing shall be published in a newspaper of general circulation in the city.
In conjunction with the publication date of the proposed hearing, a sign having a face not less than three (3) square feet shall be erected on each property line on each abutting street. The sign(s) shall inform passersby of a public hearing for rezoning and the appropriate city department to contact for additional information. The sign(s) shall remain erected until after the date of the public hearing has passed.
A change in the zoning map on the zoning regulations may be proposed by the planning and zoning commission, either on its own initiative or upon the application of any interested property owner within the area proposed for change. The petition will be accompanied by a plan or plat drawn to scale and showing sufficient detail to enable the planning and zoning commission to ascertain whether the proposed rezoning is in conformance with this ordinance. The petition will also be accompanied by a certified check, payable to the City of Grenada, in the amount of seventy-five dollars ($75.00) that will, in no case, be refunded.
In case of a protest against an amendment, signed by the owners of at least twenty (20) per cent of the lots in the area included in such proposed change or of those immediately adjacent to the area thereof extending one hundred sixty (160) feet therefrom, or of those directly opposite thereof extending one hundred sixty (160) feet from the street frontage of such opposite lots. Such amendment shall not become effective except by the favorable vote of two-thirds of all the members of the legislative body of the City of Grenada. The provisions of Sections 17-1-3 to 17-1-21, Recompiled, Mississippi Code of 1972 as amended, relative to public hearings shall apply equally to all such changes or amendments.
