The purpose of this chapter is to promote the health, safety and general welfare of the community and protect the property values and aesthetics of the community by channeling and directing growth, and by regulating and restricting the height, number of stories and size of buildings and other structures, the percentage of lot that may be occupied, the size of yard, courts and other open spaces, the density of population and the location and use of buildings, structures and land for trade, industry, residence or other purposes to the maximum extent permissible within the proper exercise of the police power as delegated by the Town Law.

It is the further purpose and objective of this chapter to ensure optimum overall conservation, protection, development and use of the unique scenic, aesthetic, wildlife, recreational, open space, historic, ecological and natural resources of the Adirondack Park (and to satisfy the criteria for approval by the Adirondack Park Agency of a local land use program pursuant to § 807, Subdivision 2, of the Adirondack Park Agency Act[1]).
