Sec. 32-356.- Parking spaces to be required and permanent.

(a)

Off-street parking space shall be provided in accordance with this section in all districts.

(b)

The off-street parking space required by this section shall be permanent space and shall not be used for any other purposes.

(c)

Each parking space shall not be less than nine by 18 feet, exclusive of adequate egress and ingress drives, landscaping and maneuvering space. Handicapped parking shall be as specified in the North Carolina Building Code.

Sec. 32-357. - Use of parking lots permitted (street parking).

(a)

The required parking space for any number of separate uses may be combined in one lot, but the required space assigned to one use may not be assigned to another use at the same time.

(b)

No portion of any street right-of-way shall be considered as fulfilling or partially fulfilling the area requirements for off-street parking required by the terms of this chapter.

Sec. 32-358. - Enforcement of article.

(a)

Each application for a zoning permit or certificate of occupancy shall include information as to the location and dimensions of off-street parking space and the means of ingress and egress between such space and a street. This information shall be in sufficient detail to enable the zoning enforcement officer to determine whether or not the requirements of this chapter are met.

(b)

The certificate of occupancy of the use of any structure or land where off-street parking space is required shall be withheld by the zoning enforcement officer until the provisions of this article are fully met. If at any time such compliance ceases, any certificate of occupancy which has been issued for the use of the property shall immediately become void.

Sec. 32-359. - Schedule of parking spaces.

Off-street parking spaces shall be provided and permanently maintained by the owners and occupants of the following types of property uses on the basis indicated:

(1)

Auditoriums, theaters, stadiums and similar uses involving the assembling of persons: One space for each three seats in such place of assembly, plus one space for each 100 square feet of floor or ground area used for amusement or assembly, but not containing fixed seats.

(2)

Bowling alleys: Four spaces for each lane.

(3)

Bus terminals: One space for each employee and one space for each bus loading ramp and track.

(4)

Colleges/technical institutes: Two spaces for each three employees, one space for each vehicle used in the operation, and one space for each three students during the period of largest enrollment.

(5)

Day care centers: One space for each 600 square feet of gross floor area.

(6)

Golf courses: Four spaces per green and one space per employee.

(7)

Hospitals: One space/bed; plus two spaces per three employees on the largest shift; plus one space per staff doctor.

(8)

Industrial, manufacturing and wholesale uses: One space for each two employees, based on the maximum number of employees on one shift which the plant or building is designed to employ.

Medical and dental clinics and offices: Four spaces for each doctor practicing at the clinic, plus one space for each employee.

(10)

Motels, tourist homes and hotels: One space for each room or unit to be rented, plus one space for each two employees on the work shift of the largest employment.

(11)

Nursing homes, rest homes, homes for the aged: One space for each four patient beds; plus one space for each staff or visiting doctor; plus one space for each two employees on shift of greatest employment.

(12)

Other office, business, and commercial uses: One space for each 200 square feet of gross floor area.

(13)

Pet cemeteries: A minimum of five spaces.

(14)

Public libraries: One space for each 300 square feet of floor area, plus one space for each two seats in any area designated or designed for group meetings.

(15)

Residences and apartments, mobile homes and mobile home parks: Two spaces for each dwelling unit.

(16)

Restaurants: One space for each three seating accommodations, plus one space for each two employees on the shift of largest employment.

(17)

Roominghouses and boardinghouses: One space for each room for rent, plus normal residential requirements.

(18)

School, elementary (both public and private): One space for each employee, plus adequate parking for buses.

(19)

School, high school (both public and private): One space for each teacher or administrative staff member, one space for each four pupils, and adequate bus parking spaces.

(20)

Service stations: Five parking spaces for each grease rack or work rack.

(21)

Shopping centers: One space for each 200 square feet of gross floor area.

(22)

Swimming pools as a principal use: A minimum of 20 spaces, plus one space for each 200 square feet of any clubhouse or similar structure designed for use by pool patrons.

Sec. 32-360. - Parking inside a city-owned parking lot.

No vehicle shall park inside a City of King owned parking lot between the hours of 11:00 p.m. through 7:00 a.m. Unless otherwise posted.
