60 CRITICAL AREAS REGULATIONS
Type | Description |
|---|---|
"NS"S" – Shoreline | Streams and waterbodies that are designated "shorelines of the state" as defined in RCW 90.58.030. |
"NS"F" – Fish | Streams and waterbodies that are known to be used by fish or meet the physical criteria to be potentially used by fish. Fish streams may or may not have flowing water all year; they may be perennial or seasonal. |
"NS"p" – Non-Fish | Streams that have flow year-round and may have spatially intermittent dry reaches downstream of perennial flow. Type Np streams do not meet the physical criteria of a Type F stream. This also includes streams that have been proven not to contain fish using methods described in Forest Practices Board Manual Section 13. |
"NS"S" – Non-Fish Seasonal | Streams that do not have surface flow during at least some portion of the year, and do not meet the physical criteria of a Type F stream. |
Wetlands generally include swamps, marshes, bogs and similar areas, or other artificial features intentionally created to mitigate conversions of wetlands pursuant to wetlands mitigation banking. |
Wetlands do not include artificial features created from nonwetland areas including, but not limited to, irrigation and drainage ditches, grass-lined swales, canals, detention facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, farm ponds and landscape amenities, or those wetlands created after July 1, 1990, that were unintentionally created as a result of the construction of a road, street, or highway. |
Where the vegetation has been removed or substantially altered, a wetland shall be determined by the presence or evidence of hydric or organic soil, as well as by other documentation, such as aerial photographs, of the previous existence of wetland vegetation. |
