All new businesses which occupy an existing commercial or industrial building within the City limits shall have their building inspected by the City Building Inspector, Fire Department, Water/Wastewater Utilities Department and Engineering, Planning and Zoning Department if required by the respective department. Said buildings shall be inspected to verify that the building complies with all minimum building codes, life and safety codes, and/or health codes, and to ensure that the building does not pose any additional environmental or public safety hazard. A certificate of occupancy will be issued once inspection has been completed, any code violations, discrepancies or hazards are corrected, and the application is submitted and approved as set forth in Subsection A(2).

All new businesses which occupy any new or existing commercial or industrial building within the City limits shall complete an application form prepared by the City to obtain a certificate of occupancy under this section. The application shall be subject to the approval of the Building Inspector, the Engineering, Planning and Zoning Department, the Water/Wastewater Utilities Department, the Fire Department, the City Treasurer's Office, and the Mayor's Office. All new businesses are required to obtain a certificate of occupancy prior to conducting any business at an existing commercial or industrial building within the City limits.
