15.02 SIGNS ALLOWED

The following described signs shall be allowed. All permanent signs shall be On-Premises Signs and shall be reviewed by the Planning and Zoning Commission prior to construction. Table 6. Sign regulations by type

15.04 ANIMATED, FLASHING, INTERMITTENT SIGNS

Animated, flashing or intermittent signs are not allowed in any of the zones in this ordinance.

15.06 CONSTRUCTION

All signs in commercial zones shall have a surface or noncombustible material, provided, however, that combustible structural trim may be used thereon.

15.08 ILLUMINATION

All signs, except business signs, shall be illuminated by indirect lighting, the source of which shall not be visible from the street. In no case shall direct rays of light be permitted to penetrate a property in a residential zone or used for residential purposes.

15.10 LOCATION OF SIGNS

All signs shall maintain a clear view of intersecting streets as provided in this ordinance. In any zone requiring a front yard, all ground signs in that zone shall adhere to the front yard requirements.

15.12 MONUMENT SIGNS

A freestanding sign with a solid base should incorporate architectural features that complement the sign construction and make it pleasing to the eye.

15.14 TEMPORARY AND SPECIAL SIGNS

A non-permanent sign intended for use for a short period of time includes any banner, pennant, or advertising display constructed with or without frame. Examples include construction signs, grand opening displays, residential land subdivision signs, and subdivision directional signs.

15.16 ON PREMISE SIGNS

All signs must be on premise, meaning they are located on the same parcel of land.

15.18 OFF PREMISE SIGNS

Off premise signs are not allowed, off premise signs are located on a separate parcel of land, or on a separate site from the place where the product, service, or business is located.

15.20 WALL SIGNS

A wall sign is a sign attached to, or erected against, the wall of a building or structure with the exposed face of the sign parallel to the plane of said wall. It does not extend over twelve (12) inches from the wall of the building or structure.

15.22 TRAFFIC SIGNS

Traffic signs are allowed in the UDOT and City right-of-ways where warranted. All traffic signs must meet requirements of the MUTCD and/or Mendon City Standards.
