CHAPTER 17

16 NATURE DISTRICT PROVISIONS

17.16.010: PURPOSES:

The ND district is designed to protect substantially undeveloped, public land in a natural state, limiting uses primarily to passive recreation, hunting and fishing, wildlife preservation, and water preservation. Farming and ranching are expressly prohibited in nature district, and other types of development will normally be restricted to governmental installations, parks, and the roads and trails necessary to access these areas or to pass through them. Dwellings which are existing at the time a nature district is created may continue to exist, but no new dwellings may be created, except as necessary to function primarily as ranger stations, with the residential portion as an accessory use. Industrial, office and commercial uses are expressly prohibited, except such offices as may be needed for law enforcement or maintenance purposes, or minor commercial uses which are supportive of the primary uses, such as the sale of bait for fishing purposes. (Ord. 1953, 2010)
