ARTICLE XI
HB Historic Business District
§ 200-75 Purpose.
The purpose of this district is to provide primarily for retail shopping and personal service use, to be developed either as a unit or in individual parcels, to serve rural and residential neighborhoods. To enhance the general historic character of the district and its compatibility with its historic residential surroundings, signs are limited to those accessory to businesses conducted on the premises, and the number, area and types of signs are limited. All business uses within this district shall strictly conform to the Historic District Architectural guidelines contained in Article XX.
§ 200-76 Permitted business uses.
A building or land shall be used only for the following business purposes:

Any use permitted in the Historic Residential District.
B.
Banks, drive-in or otherwise, so long as driveway space shall be provided off the street for all vehicles waiting for drive-in service.
C.
Bakeries, retail.
D.
Barbershops or beauty parlors.
E.
Bicycle sales and repair shops.
F.
Delicatessen businesses.
G.
Clinics.
H.
Dry-cleaning and laundry pickup shops.
I.
Flower shops.
J.
Health club facilities.
K.
Offices, general business or professional.
L.
Monument sales.
N.
Radio and television broadcasting stations or studios.
O.
Restaurants.
P.
Shoe-repairing shops.
Q.
Shops for the sale, service or repair of home appliances, office machines, electrical and television and radio equipment.
R.
Stores and shops for the conduct of retail business, including sale of accessories, antiques, apparel, appliances, beverages, books, carpets, computers, catering, dairy products, pharmaceutical products and over-the-counter medicaments, prescriptions, fabric, food, furniture, general merchandise, hardware, garden supplies, hobby supplies, jewelry, office supplies, paint, printing, sporting goods, stationery, and similar stores and shops.

Undertaking businesses or establishments or funeral homes.
T.
Studios for artists, photographers, teachers and musicians.
U.
Bed-and-breakfast, tourist home.
V.
No building may be erected, altered or used and no lot or premises may be used for any trade, industry or business that is noxious or offensive by reason of odor, dust, smoke, gas or other vibrations or noise.
§ 200-77 Permitted accessory uses.
§ 200-78 Conditional uses.

§ 200-80 Permitted signs.
Permitted signs are as follows:

All signs permitted in any district.
C.
One indirectly illuminated identification sign, not to exceed 30 square feet in area for each building devoted to the following uses: church, school, hospital, nursing home, country club, golf course or similar use. Such signs shall be used solely for the purpose of displaying the name of the institution or association and its services or activities. In addition, a bulletin board may be permitted, provided that the total of 30 square feet is not exceeded by both the bulletin board and the identification sign.
D.
One nonilluminated sign not exceeding four square feet of area identifying a permitted home occupation on the premises.
E.
A business sign not exceeding three square feet for each lineal foot of street frontage on the lot; provided, however, that no single sign shall exceed 200 square feet in sign area. Permitted sign locations are marquee, projecting, roof and/or ground. All ground signs shall have a minimum front setback of 15 feet, except ground signs supported by not more than two pedestals, the bottom of which sign is more than 14 feet above the ground and which shall have a minimum front setback of two feet from the street line.
§ 200-81 Height, area and bulk requirements.
