Sec. 5B-7-1. - All districts.

Highway directional signs and markers which shall be made and installed in accordance with the specifications of the village, announcing the location of, or directing traffic to, given locations which include, but are not limited to, the following:

Service areas—automobile, food, lodging.

Public and quasi-public information signs.

Business or business districts.

Sec. 5B-7-2. - Residential districts.

In all residential districts, the following signs are permitted in accordance with the regulations set forth hereinafter:

(a)

Nonflashing, nonilluminated accessory signs, as follows:

Nameplates and identification signs, subject to the following:

(1)

Nameplates. For one- and two-family dwellings, there shall be not more than one nameplate, not exceeding one and one-half square feet in area, for each dwelling unit, indicating the name or address of the occupant, provided that on a corner lot two such nameplates for each dwelling unit, one facing each street, shall be permitted.

(2)

Identification signs. For multiple-family dwellings, for apartment hotels, and for buildings other than dwellings, a single identification sign not exceeding nine square feet in area and indicating only the name and address of the building and the name of the management thereof may be displayed, provided that on a corner lot two such signs, one facing each street, shall be permitted.

(3)

Church bulletin boards. Church bulletin boards which shall not exceed 24 square feet in area.

(4)

Projection. No sign shall project beyond the property line into the public way.

(5)

Height. No sign shall project higher than one story, or 20 feet above curb level, whichever is lower.

(b)

Signs advertising the sale or rental of property upon which the sign is located, provided:

(1)

Signs advertising the sale of one residential lot shall not exceed nine square feet.

(2)

Signs for the sale of property within an approved subdivision or for a single parcel of more than 40 acres shall not exceed 100 square feet and shall be permitted for a period of not more than two years, except that a permit may be renewed annually for a period not to exceed one year.

(3)

The sign is located as directed by the zoning administrator but in no case shall a sign be located closer than ten feet to any other zoning lot nor project beyond the property line into the public way.

(4)

No sign shall project higher than eight feet above the road level.

Sec. 5B-7-3. - Business districts.

The following signs shall be permitted and governed as follows:

(a)

Advertising signs and outdoor billboards advertising products and matters not related to the occupancy and use of the premises may be permitted with a special use permit.

(b)

Signs attached to a building or buildings shall not project more than 18 inches from the wall upon which they are attached. Signs must be attached to parapet walls or other wall surfaces made a part of the main structure. Signs attached to the roofline shall not be permitted. No sign shall project higher than four feet above the parapet line or the roofline, whichever is higher.

(c)

The gross surface area of all signs on a zoning lot shall not exceed a square foot area of one-half the lineal frontage of such zoning lot, or 30 square feet for each business use, whichever is greater. Each side of a building which abuts upon more than one street shall be considered as a separate frontage.

(d)

For integrated shopping centers in single ownership and management, or under unified control, and containing five or more stores or shops, one additional sign may be erected not exceeding 100 square feet in area, advertising only the name and location of the integrated shopping center.

Such sign shall be placed so as to be not less than ten feet from the front property lines of the premises upon which the sign is located and the bottom edge of such signs shall be at least eight feet above the level of the ground and the overall height shall not exceed 20 feet above curb level, or above the adjoining ground level if such ground level is above the street level.

(e)

No sign may be painted, pasted or similarly posted directly on the surface of any wall. Nor shall any sign be permitted to be placed on any wall, fence or standard, facing the side of any adjoining lot located in any residential district.

(f)

Signs attached to, or hung from a marquee or canopy shall be completely within the borderline of the outer edge of the marquee or canopy, and shall in no instance be lower than eight feet above the ground or surface over which the marquee or canopy is constructed.

(g)

Signs, clocks or other advertising devices erected upon standards or separate supports shall be placed so as to be not less than ten feet from the front property lines of the premises upon which it is located, and no part of the sign or standard shall have a total height greater than 20 feet above the level of the street upon which the sign faces, or above the adjoining ground level if such ground level is above the street level, nor shall the surface of any such sign exceed an area of 100 square feet.

(h)

No illuminated sign shall be of the flashing or intermittent type. Signs which may be in conflict with public traffic signals shall not be permitted.

(i)

Traffic or directional signs designating entrances, exits and conditions of use of parking facilities accessory to the main use of the premises, may be maintained, provided they are located within the property lines of the subject lot.

Sec. 5B-7-4. - Manufacturing districts.

The following signs shall be permitted and governed as follows:

(a)

All signs and nameplates permitted in the business districts.

(b)

Billboards, advertising signs and poster panels, provided the total area of all such billboards, advertising signs and poster panels does not exceed 275 square feet.

(c)

The gross area in square feet of all signs on a zoning lot shall not exceed four square feet per lineal foot of building facade.

(d)

No sign shall project higher than 45 feet above the ground level beneath it.

(e)

No advertising sign shall be located within 500 feet of any public park of more than five acres in area, or any freeways, expressways and toll roads designated as such in the records of the governing authorities. The advertising sign shall only advertise what is being assembled or manufactured on the premises.

(f)

No advertising sign shall be located within 75 feet of any property located in a residence district.

Sec. 5B-7-5. - Agricultural districts.

In Ag districts the following signs are permitted in accordance with the regulations set forth hereafter:

(a)

Allowable signs:

(1)

Identification signs associated with permitted uses, not exceeding 32 square feet in gross surface area. One such signs shall be permitted on each frontage.

(2)

Commercial identification sign associated with permitted uses as regulated by relevant special use permit or permits, not exceeding 32 square feet in gross surface area. One such signs shall be permitted on each frontage.

(3)

Monument signs associated with public or semi-public use, not exceeding 128 square feet in gross surface area.

(b)

Location and height:

(1)

No sign placed upon the ground shall be located closer than ten feet to any interior property line.

(2)

No sign attached to the wall of a building or other structure shall extend above the roof line of that building or structure.

(3)

With the exception of monument signs, no sign shall exceed ten feet in height from the surrounding grave to the highest point of the sign. Monument signs shall not exceed 12 feet in height from the surrounding grave to the highest point of the sign.
