MINIMUM FLOOR AREAS
Minimum floor area requirements; a building permit shall not be issued for any building that does not conform to the following:

Multi-family dwelling units shall have not less than the following footage of living quarters:

For one-bedroom units: Five hundred fifty (550) square feet.
10.1.1.2
For each additional bedroom over one: One hundred twenty-five (125) square feet.

Two-Family Dwellings: Newly constructed two-family dwellings shall have a minimum floor are of seven hundred (700) square feet per unit for single level structures and a minimum floor area of seven hundred seventy-five (775) square feet per unit for multi-level structures. Existing structures, which are converted to two-family dwellings, shall contain a minimum floor area of six hundred fifty (650) square feet per dwelling unit containing one bedroom. A unit containing more than one bedroom shall provide one hundred twenty-five (125) square feet for each additional bedroom.
No single-family structure shall be converted to a two-family structure if additions to the existing building are required to meet the above square footage requirements. Where an existing single-family dwelling is converted to a two- family, the external appearance and general characteristics of the building as a single-family shall be preserved.
Each individual dwelling unit must be individually metered for all utility services and must be served by public water and sewers.
