In order to regulate, promote and restrict the location of agriculture, trade, industry, commerce, public and semipublic uses and residences, and the location of buildings erected or altered for specific uses; to regulate or limit the height and bulk of buildings hereinafter erected or structurally altered; to regulate and limit population density and the intensity of the use of lot areas, and to regulate and determine the area of yards and other open spaces within and surrounding such buildings, for the general health, safety and welfare of the citizens of the city, the zoning districts listed in this chapter, as that chapter now exists or may hereafter be amended are established:
