CHAPTER 1274

Outdoor Lighting

1274.01 DRIVEWAY LIGHTS.

   (a)   Building Permit Required. A building permit shall be obtained from the Inspector of Buildings for the installation of driveway lights upon providing him or her with such plans and specifications as may be reasonably required to show the location of the proposed lighting and materials, after payment of the fee required in Section 1446.01.
   (b)   Wattage.
      (1)   Fixtures emitting rays above the horizontal shall be limited to fifteen (15) watts of incandescent type lamps or the equivalent light output for other light sources.
      (2)   Fixtures emitting rays horizontally or below shall be limited to forty (40) watts of incandescent type lamps or the equivalent light output for other light sources.
   (c)   Fixtures in Right of Way. No fixtures shall be permitted in any street right of way.
   (d)   Lamp Placement. The center of the electric lamp bulb shall not be placed more than twenty-four inches above grade.

1274.02 LAMPS ON RAISED POSTS.

   (a)   Building Permit Required. A building permit shall be obtained from the Inspector of Buildings for the installation of lamps on raised posts upon providing him or her with such plans and specifications as may be reasonably required to show the location of the proposed lighting and materials, after payment of the fee required by Section 1446.01, for either gas or electric lights.
   (b)   Wattage. The lamp wattage shall not exceed seventy-five (75) watts of incandescent type lamps of the equivalent light output for other light sources.
   (c)   Fixtures in Right of Way. The lamppost must not be in the street right of way.
   (d)   Lamp Placement. The center of the electric or gas lamp bulb shall not be more than nine feet above grade.
   (e)   Shielding. Any raised lamp shall also be shielded that no direct rays shall strike neighboring houses. (Ord. 2015-05. Passed 4-22-15.)
 

1274.03 SPOTLIGHTS AND FLOODLIGHTS.

   (a)   No direct rays shall strike neighboring residence.
   (b)   No spotlight or floodlight shall be placed more than fifteen feet from the ground.
   (c)   The maximum angular setting for any spotlight or floodlight shall not exceed thirty degrees from vertical.
