CHAPTER 11

OFF STREET PARKING

10-11-1: DWELLINGS:

Parking area and access drive of gravel or other improved surface shall be provided off the public right of way at the rate of one parking place for each dwelling unit. (Ord. 8/53, 1-18-1954)

10-11-2: INSTITUTIONS:

Churches, hospitals, orphanages, colleges, sanatoriums, athletic fields and like establishments shall provide adequate parking facilities off the public right of way with gravel or improved surface. The area required shall be sufficient to provide for the estimated number of vehicles of persons desiring access to the premises. (Ord. 8/53, 1-18-1954)

10-11-3: COMMERCIAL:

Commercial buildings shall provide vehicle parking area with gravel or other improved surface for customer use at the rate of one parking place for each two hundred (200) square feet of area in the building used for commercial purposes; provided, that any establishment whose primary use is to serve meals, lunches, or drinks to patrons in the building shall provide parking area for customers at the rate of one parking place for each one hundred (100) square feet of floor space in the building; that auditoriums, amusement places or theaters shall provide one parking place for each four (4) seats in the theater; and that two (2) or more establishments may provide joint parking areas providing they are within three hundred feet (300') of the establishments. 10-11-4: INDUSTRIAL:

Industrial buildings shall provide parking area off the public right of way with gravel or other improved surface for both employees and customers.
There shall be provided off street loading and unloading space as follows:
   (A)   Buildings of ten thousand (10,000) square feet of floor area, one off street loading space plus one additional off street loading and unloading space for each additional fourteen thousand (14,000) square feet of area.
   (B)   Each loading space shall be not less than fourteen feet (14') in width and fifty feet (50') in length. (Ord. 8/53, 1-18-1954)

10-11-5: DOWNTOWN BUSINESS DISTRICT EXEMPTION:

No off street parking need be provided for buildings and uses located within the boundaries of the downtown area enclosed by NW/SW 3rd Avenue, SW/SE 4th Street, NE/SE 3rd Avenue, and NW/NE 2nd Street provided they are located within five hundred feet (500') of a public parking lot or an alternative parking plan is approved.
