ARTICLE XLVI

Affordable Housing for Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Workers

§ 213-572 Purpose; legislative authority.

The Long Island Workforce Housing Act set forth in Article 16-A of the New York General Municipal Law provides that projects with five or more residential units available for purchase or rental must designate 20% or more of the units as affordable housing subject to guidelines established by the Town Board. In that regard, the Town Board hereby declares that volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers shall be given a preference with respect to affordable housing.

§ 213-573 Affordable housing; preference for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers.

Volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers who meet the income qualifications set forth in the Long Island Workforce Housing Act shall have priority over other income-eligible residents to purchase or rent affordable housing units in the Town of Babylon. Such preference shall be given to any volunteer firefighter or ambulance worker who is actively enrolled as a member of a volunteer fire department or ambulance corps in Nassau or Suffolk County, with the order of priority to be based on the length of volunteer service.
