The ordinance codified in this title shall be known, cited, and referred to as the "2018 Cary Unified Development Ordinance." The ordinance includes all the text, tables, drawings, and related material herein except for the marginal notes which were administrative in nature and intended only as a guide to interpreting the ordinance.

This title is adopted for the purpose of regulating the use and development of the land within the jurisdiction of the Village consistent with authority granted or authorized to the Village under State law. The objectives of this title are:

1)

To promote the public health, safety, comfort, morals, convenience, and general welfare;

2)

To conserve the taxable value of land and buildings throughout the Municipality;

3)

To secure adequate light, pure air, and safety from fire and other dangers;

4)

To lessen or avoid congestion in the public streets;

5)

To lessen or avoid damage to property resulting from the accumulation or runoff of stormwater or floodwater; and

6)

To ensure and facilitate the preservation of sites, areas, and structures of historical, architectural, and aesthetic importance.
