17.05 Authority
Purpose, and Intent
17.05.010 Authority.
In accordance with the provisions of AS 29.40.040, Land use regulation, this title is enacted for the regulation of the use of land in the Kodiak Island Borough. [Ord. 81-45-O §1, 1981. Formerly §17.01.010].
17.05.020 Purpose.
It is the purpose of this title to promote public health, safety, and general welfare through the use of uniform district regulations concerning:
A. Land use;
B. Building location and use;
C. The height and size of structures;
D. The number of stories in buildings;
E. The percentage of a lot which may be covered;
F. The size of open spaces; and

17.05.030 Intent.
It is the intent of this title to:
A. Provide for orderly development;
B. Lessen street congestion;
C. Promote fire safety and public order;
D. Protect the public health and general welfare;
E. Prevent overcrowding;
F. Stimulate systematic development of transportation, water, sewer, school, park, and other public facilities; and
G. Encourage efficiency in the use of energy and the substitution of energy from renewable sources for energy from fossil fuels. [Ord. 81-45-O §1, 1981. Formerly §17.01.030].
