PREFACE

This publication contains the Zoning Ordinance of the Town of Purcellville, Virginia, adopted on March 12, 1991, and effective on the same date. This republication is updated through Ordinance No. 12-07-07, adopted July 19, 2012. Amendments to the ordinance are indicated by parenthetical history notes following amended provisions. The absence of a history note indicates that the provision remains unchanged from the original ordinance.

The original numbering system has been retained. For stylistic purposes, a uniform system of headings, capitalization, citation to state statutes, and expression of numbers in text has been used. Obvious misspellings and punctuation errors have been corrected without notation. Words or phrases added for purposes of clarification are enclosed in brackets.

The Code of Virginia, § 15.2-2280 et seq., contains provisions relative to zoning.

Page Numbering System

The page numbering system used in this Code is a prefix system. The letters to the left of the colon are an abbreviation which represents a certain portion of the volume. The number to the right of the colon represents the number of the page in that portion. In the case of a chapter of the Code, the number to the left of the colon indicates the number of the chapter.

Index

As part of the publication project, a comprehensive index was prepared. Each particular subject has been placed under several headings, some couched in lay phraseology and others in legal terminology. There are numerous cross references within the index which stand as guideposts to direct the user to the particular item in which he is interested.

Looseleaf Supplements

Another special feature of this publication is the supplemental service by which the publication will be kept up to date periodically. Upon the final passage of amendments, they will be properly edited and the page or pages affected will be reprinted. These new pages will be distributed to holders of copies of the publication with instructions for the manner of inserting the new pages and deleting the obsolete pages. The instruction sheet for the most current supplement should be placed in the front of the publication, and it is recommended that deleted pages be saved and filed for historical reference.
