As used in this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings indicated:
ADULT DAY CAREA nonresidential facility providing care for the elderly and/or functionally impaired adults in a protective environment. Operators shall be licensed as required by the State of New Jersey as applicable to operate and offer services such as providing meals, social services, recreational outings and trips, physical therapy, general supervision and support. The participants at such a facility shall not be related to the members of the facility's governing authority by marriage, blood, or adoption. Adult day-care facilities shall not provide services to participants for longer than 12 hours in a calendar day.

AFFORDABLEHaving a sales price or rent within the means of a low- or moderate-income household as defined in N.J.A.C. 5:93-7.4, or in the case of housing developed in accordance with the third-round rules of the New Jersey Council on Affordable Housing, as defined by N.J.A.C. 5:94-7.

BUILDING ENVELOPEThat portion of a lot within which a principal building is permitted to be located by law. The building envelope excludes the minimum front, side and rear yards required by the zoning regulations as well as wetlands, approved wetland transition areas, floodways, utility easements, access easements, conservation easements and all other areas within which buildings are prohibited.

DWELLING UNIT or RESIDENTIAL UNITA single unit providing complete independent living facilities for one or more persons, including permanent provisions for living, sleeping, eating, cooking and sanitation.
FAMILYOne or more persons occupying a dwelling or residential unit as a single nonprofit housekeeping unit.
GARDEN APARTMENTA building of no more than two stories containing at least eight dwelling units, in which one dwelling unit may be located over another unit, access to such units may be by a common entrance, and utilities may be shared.
INDOOR PHYSICAL FITNESS FACILITYA building or portion of a building in which facilities and individualized training and/or instruction are provided on a membership basis for physical fitness, sports training or weight loss, but specifically excluding schools, activities involving spectator viewing, competitive events or performing events.

INSTITUTIONAny church, public library, public or private educational institution, hospital or other public or quasi-public building or public park or playground permitted in a residential zone.
MARKET-RATE DWELLING UNITSHousing units not restricted to low- and moderate-income households that may sell at any price determined by a willing seller and a willing buyer.

MINIMUM LOT DEPTHThe shortest distance between the front lot line and the rear lot line, or extensions thereof, measured along a line perpendicular to the street upon which the lot fronts.

MULTIPLE DWELLINGA building of no more than three stories containing at least eight dwelling units, in which the dwelling units may be located over one another.
SATELLITE ANTENNA OR DISHAny apparatus of a concave or dish-like configuration which is designed for the purpose of receiving telephone, television, radio, microwave, satellite or similar signals.
SELF-SERVICE STORAGE FACILITYA structure or structures containing separate, individual and private storage spaces of varying sizes, leased or rented on individual leases to residential and commercial users for varying periods of time. For purposes of this chapter, "self-service storage facility" shall be considered synonymous with self-storage warehouse, self-storage facility, mini-warehouse or mini-storage.

SIGNAny letters, figures, design, symbol, trademark or illuminating device intended to attract attention to any place, subject, person, firm, service, corporation, public performance, article, machine or merchandise whatsoever and painted, printed or constructed and displayed in any manner whatsoever out of doors or intended to be viewed from out of doors. However, this shall not include any official court or public notices or the flag, emblem or insignia of a government, school or religious group when displayed for official purposes.
SIGN AREAThe surface area computed by drawing a rectangle touching the outermost edges of the outermost letters or pictures comprising the sign or the area established by reason of distinctive variation in background color, by borders or by some other equivalent manner, whichever is greater.
TOWNHOUSEOne dwelling unit in a group of at least two dwelling units, in which each structure unit has its own front and rear access, no unit is located above another unit, each unit is separated from others by a fire wall, and each unit has its own independent utilities.
WAREHOUSE FACILITYA warehouse shall refer to structures used for the reception and storage of goods, materials or merchandise for later or subsequent distribution or delivery elsewhere for purposes of processing for sale. Such goods, materials or merchandise shall be incidental to the primary business and no manufacturing shall occur in warehouse structure.
