BASE BUILDING LINES
Base building lines are hereby established from which all required front and street side yards and setbacks required by this code are to be measured and determined, and beyond which no building, structure, or part thereof shall be erected, structurally altered, enlarged, or extended. The entire area between the street and the base building line shall be open from the ground to the sky, except as provided in article X and except for the temporary parking of private motor vehicles. The area between the street and the base building line shall not be utilized for the display of goods, commodities, or merchandise of any type or kind that are offered for sale or for rent, nor shall the area be used for the storage of goods, commodities, or merchandise whether on a temporary or a permanent basis.
Base building lines shall be located as specified for the streets which are enumerated hereafter. For all other streets in the city the base building lines shall be located 25 feet from the centerline, except that where the existing street lines or right-of-way lines of roads other than those listed provide a street width equal to or greater than 50 feet, such existing lines shall constitute the base building line. For purposes of this article the centerline shall be the center of the right-of-way, the street line shall be the road right-of-way line.
Base building lines are hereby established for the streets as shown in appendix A of this code. These measurements are to be measured from the centerline of the highway. Buildings may be constructed in any zone up to the base building line as established below, provided the minimum front yard requirements measured from the street property line are provided.
Editor's note— Appendix A, referred to in section 15.1, is not printed herein.
