The R-5, urban single-family residential district is established as a district in which the principal use of land is single-family dwellings within a dense urban setting. The specific intent of this article is to protect the residential character of the district by prohibiting commercial activities, to encourage a suitable neighborhood environment for family life, and to encourage urban single-family development with compact lot sizes and setbacks.

In all R-5 districts no building or land, except as otherwise provided in this ordinance, shall be erected or used except for the following specified uses:
(a)
Any use permitted in the R-1, single-family residential district.
(b)
Accessory uses.
(c)
Home occupations as defined in Section 4.38.

(a)
Schools, libraries, churches, and other facilities normally incidental thereto, provided that the proposed site for a church is not less than one (1) acre; that there is adequate access to all required off-street parking areas and there is no parking in the required front yard.

Family child-care home, as defined in Section 11.03(g).
