Purposes and interpretation.
A.
Title: This Local Law of the Village of Lewiston shall be known and may be cited as "The Village of Lewiston, N.Y., Zoning Ordinance." The Local Law hereinafter will be referred to as the ordinance.
B.
The purposes of this ordinance are to promote the health, safety, and general welfare of the community by regulating and restricting the location, construction and the use of buildings and structures and the use of land within the Village of Lewiston and for said purpose to divide the village into districts.
C.
In interpreting, construing and applying the provisions of these ordinances, they shall be held to be the minimum requirements for the protection of the public safety, convenience, prosperity and general welfare of the public. It is not intended that these ordinances shall conflict, abrogate, or annul any other ordinance, rule or regulation of the Village of Lewiston, previously adopted or which may hereafter be adopted and not in conflict with these ordinances, nor is it intended by this ordinance to interfere with or abrogate or annul any easements, covenants or other agreements between parties; however, that where this ordinance imposes a greater restriction upon the use of buildings or premises or upon the height of buildings or requires larger yards, courts, or other open spaces than are imposed or required by such existing provisions of law or ordinance or by such rules, regulations or permits, or by such easements, covenants or agreements, the provisions of this ordinance shall control.
D.
The provisions and regulations of this local law, and interpretations thereof, shall be made in accordance with the objectives of the Village of Lewiston Comprehensive Master Plan ( 2004) and consistent with the policies and purposes of the Village of Lewiston adopted Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (1986) for the purposes of promoting the public health, safety, convenience, order, prosperity and general welfare of the community and protecting and enhancing the coastal resources of the community.
