Lyndon City Zoning Code

CHAPTER 17

24 - ADMINISTRATION AND ENFORCEMENT

17.24.010 - Interpretation, purpose and conflict.

In interpreting and applying the provisions of this title, they shall be held to be the minimum requirements for the promotion of the public safety, health, convenience, comfort, prosperity, and general welfare. It is not intended by this title to interfere with or abrogate or annul any easements, covenants, or agreements between parties; provided, however, that where this title imposes a greater restriction upon the use of buildings or premises, or require larger open spaces than are imposed or required by other ordinances, rules, regulations, or by easements, covenants, or agreements, the provisions of this title shall govern.

(Prior code § 12-118.)

17.24.020 - Amendments.

The village board of the Village of Lyndon may, on its own motion or on petition, amend this title from time to time by ordinance, but no such amendments shall be made without public hearing before the zoning committee. At least 15 days' notice of the time and place of such hearing shall be published in a paper of general circulation in the village.

(Prior code § 12-119.)

17.24.030 - Enforcement, legal procedure, penalties.

It shall be the duty of the village board to enforce this title. Any person, firm, or corporation who violates, disobeys, omits, neglects, or refuses to comply with or who resists the enforcement of any of the provisions of this title shall be fined not less than $5.00 nor more than $200.00 for each offense. Each day that a violation is permitted to exist shall constitute a separate offense.

In case any building or structure is erected, constructed, reconstructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, converted, or maintained, or any building, structure, or land is used in violation of this title, the proper authorities of the Village of Lyndon, in addition to other remedies, may institute any appropriate action or proceedings to prevent such unlawful erection, alteration, repair, conversion, maintenance or use, to restrain, correct, or abate such violation, to prevent the occupancy of said building, structure or land, or to prevent any illegal act, conduct, business or use in or about such premises.

(Prior code § 12-121.)
