13.48 Solar

Energy

13.48.010 Purpose

The purpose of this section is to allow for the installation and use of solar energy production systems, including both active and passive systems for all zoning districts within Milford City.

13.48.020 Definitions

  1. Solar System, Active: A solar energy system which uses solar panels to generate electrical and/or thermal energy that is mounted to the roof of a building or structure.
  2. Solar Energy, Passive: A solar energy system which uses structural elements of a building to provide for collection, storage, and distribution of solar energy for heating or cooling, in order to reduce the need for outside energy resources.
  3. Solar Panel: A structure containing solar cells that collects sunlight and coverts it to electrical energy.
  4. Solar Farm: An installation or area of land in which a large number of solar panels are set up in order to generate electricity.

13.48.030 Regulations And Standards

  1. Active Solar Systems which meet the following regulations and standards are permitted within all zones of Milford City:
    1. Solar Systems must be mounted on the roof of the primary structure.
    2. Solar Panels shall not exceed 18" in height above the roof.
    3. Solar Panels shall not extend past the roof line.
    4. A building permit must be obtained to ensure code compliance.
  2. Passive Solar Energy Systems which meet the following regulations and standards are permitted within all zones of Milford City:
    1. Meet height and setback requirements of the zone in which they are located.
    2. A building permit must be obtained to ensure code compliance.

13.48.040 Prohibited

  1. Solar Farms are not permitted within Milford City Limits.
