ARTICLE XXIV

COS CONTROLLED OPEN SPACE DISTRICT

§ 155.2401 PURPOSE.

   The COS Controlled Open Space District should be applied in areas which traditionally have been open space and devoid of structure development occupying more than ten (10) percent of the parcel's area. These open space qualities are essential for the health and safety for residents and visitors to the village.

§ 155.2402 PERMITTED USES.

   The following uses are permitted in the COS Controlled Open Space District:
   (A)   Park and open space;
   (B)   Golf course and golf driving range;
   (C)   Forest preserve;
   (D)   Arboretum;
   (E)   Recreation and playfield area;
   (F)   Airport clear zone;
   (G)   Undeveloped natural land;
   (H)   Unpaved trails or pathways for use by hikers, equestrians and bicyclists;
   (I)   Archaeological or historic sites;
   (J)   Parkland including but not limited to; picnic grounds, playgrounds, and unlit playing fields;
   (K)   Manmade water features and watercourses, dams, and retention areas;
   (L)   Paved or unpaved trails or pathway systems for use by equestrians, hikers, and bicyclists;
   (M)   Public and private natural wildlife reserves or sanctuaries, and arboretums;
   (N)   Utility services, but not including offices, waste water treatment plants, generating stations, sub-stations, switching or splitting stations; and
   (O)   Accessory Uses including parking areas for trailheads.

§ 155.2403 CONDITIONAL USES.

   The following uses may be allowed as conditional uses in the COS Controlled Open Space District if the structures do not occupy more than ten (10) percent of the parcel area:
   (A)   Equestrian facilities provided the site contains at least five (5) acres.
