20.30

Outdoor storage.

(1)

In the R-1, R-2, R-3, R-4, R-M and agricultural districts, outdoor storage, whether temporary or permanent, shall adhere to the following:

(a)

The accumulation or storage of disassembled, inoperable, or unlicensed automobiles or trucks, tractors, farm implements, furnaces, home appliances, plumbing fixtures, construction materials, amusement park devices, metal and other pipes, rubber, glass, bottles, machinery or parts thereof, junk, wood, brick, cement block, or other unsightly debris shall be prohibited on any lot or parcel of land within the city limits of Sturgeon Bay except as set forth herein.

(b)

Notwithstanding the above, firewood, lawn and patio equipment may be stored outside in a neat and orderly manner.

(c)

No outside storage shall be permitted of any disassembled, inoperable or unlicensed vehicles, equipment, appliances or machinery which are not in operating condition subject to any restriction otherwise imposed by law or any ordinance of the City of Sturgeon Bay. This subsection shall not apply to any location which is not in fact visible from any public street, highway, roadway, or adjacent property nor to the temporary parking of inoperable or disabled vehicles on the premises of the owner of such vehicles for the purpose of maintenance and repair. Temporary parking shall not exceed 72 hours in any period of seven consecutive days.

(d)

Permitted outdoor storage shall not exceed one-third of the rear yard area and shall not be closer than three feet to the side lot line and shall be set back at least six feet from an alley and at least 15 feet from any street. Portable buildings shall not exceed more than 100 square feet in area, and there shall not be more than two such buildings per lot.

(e)

These provisions shall not apply to the outdoor storage of agricultural equipment stored in the active pursuit of agriculture in an agricultural zoning district.

(2)

In all districts, portable buildings or trailers and construction materials used in conjunction with either new construction projects or remodeling or repair projects shall be permitted, provided a valid building permit has been issued for the construction and provided such portable building or trailer is removed prior to final inspection.

(3)

In all commercial and industrial districts:

(a)

Temporary semi-trailer parking or storage is permitted in all yards of a commercial district except that no parking shall be closer than 60 feet of a property line. Temporary parking or storage means for not more than 72 hours in any period of seven consecutive days.

(b)

Use of land for outdoor storage or collection or accumulation of used lumber, scrap iron, tires, appliances, unlicensed or inoperable automobiles, snowmobiles, machinery or other items not related to property use shall not be permitted. Outdoor storage in conjunction with the business must be screened from public right-of-way or residential property.
