45 - AIRPORT/HELIPORT OVERLAY OZ-AH DISTRICT
This district implements the airport/heliport overlay zoning designation, which is intended to regulate land use in areas characterized by high noise levels and accident potential resulting from aircraft operation. As an overlay district, the OZ-AH district may be combined with any other district established by this title, and the provisions of this chapter shall be in addition to the provision for the underlying district.

The following uses are permitted outright within the OZ-AH district, subject to compliance with all other applicable requirements of Darrington Municipal Code.
A.
Airport/heliport or other aircraft related facility.

All adjacent uses shall be compatible with the continued safe operation of the airport. The town may impose any additional regulation not listed below to improve the safety and general welfare of the public. No uses in the overlay zone shall be allowed which:
1.
Release into the air any substances, which would impair visibility or otherwise interfere with the operation of aircraft;
2.
Produce light emissions, either direct or indirect (reflective), which would interfere with pilot vision;
3.
Produce emissions, which would interfere with aircraft communication systems or navigational equipment;
4.
Attract birds in such numbers as would create a hazard to aircraft operations.
B.
General requirements for helicopters shall include, but not be limited to the following:
1.
In consideration of identified noise impacts, the town may impose conditions restricting the type of aircraft permitted to land at an approved heliport, and conditions which limit the number of daily takeoffs and landing and hours of operation;
2.
The town may impose a periodic review requirement on heliport use approvals in order to consider imposing additional conditions to mitigate adverse impacts from new aircraft technology;
3.
Environmental impacts of approach and departure paths will me addressed and mitigated through the SEPA process;
4.
Heliport landing areas shall be at least one and one-half times the overall length of the largest helicopter expected to use the facility;
5.
Public use heliports shall be marked and lighted in accordance with FAA regulations. All FAA regulations regarding landing area access and pad size, also apply.
